NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After Randy Orton’s brutal attack on Shane and Stephanie McMahon last week, and Stephanie’s husband WWE Champion Triple H’s intense interview on SmackDown, the WWE Universe was on the edge of their seats when Raw came to Nashville. Though he was willing to speak on the subject on Friday night, The Game arrived on Raw in no mood for, well … games, as he proceeded to attack Orton as well as his two associates, chasing them from the arena with a flurry of attacks from his trusty sledgehammer.
WWE Champion Triple H arrived on Raw, attacked Randy Orton and his “Legacy” and chased them away from the arena (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Randy Orton, holding Triple H’s signature weapon, a sledgehammer, took to the ring, flanked by Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase. The 2009 Royal Rumble winner denied culpability for his actions against the Chairman, Shane and Stephanie McMahon, but his excuses were interrupted by The Game's entrance. The WWE Champion carried a sledgehammer with him as he made his way down to the ring, but was stopped on the apron by Orton, who suggested they both drop their weapons to settle the issue like men.
Both Superstars discarded their sledgehammers, but to Orton’s surprise, living up to his moniker, The Cerebral Assassin, Triple H revealed a second sledgehammer which had been taped to his back. The Legacy members attempted to get away from the enraged WWE Champion, who managed to deal out a crushing blow to Rhodes as Orton and DiBiase ran to the locker room area. The two third-generation Superstars locked themselves in Orton’s room, which provided a few moments of protection as The Game broke the door open. Triple H managed to hit DiBiase, and barely missed Orton as the two escaped to their waiting car and made their getaway with Cody Rhodes.
John Cena def. Chavo Guerrero (PHOTOS | WATCH)
John Cena came to the ring hoping to receive his rematch against Edge for the World Heavyweight Title, or at the very least given the opportunity to cut the massive Big Show down to size. However, Vickie Guerrero revealed that in accordance with what she announced earlier in the night, Cena would indeed be facing a member of her family: Chavo Guerrero. In spite of the self-proclaimed “Mexican Warrior’s” legendary lineage, he wasn’t able to stand up to the intense, relentless assault of the former World Heavyweight Champion, who forced Chavo to tap with the STF.
Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame; Chris Jericho insulted and attacked the WWE Legend (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Another member of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2009 was announced on Raw: Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. But as “The Dragon” was attempting to express his excitement at being honored, he was interrupted by Chris Jericho, who in recent weeks has made a point of denigrating WWE Legends. The arrogant Superstar spat venom at Steamboat, belittling his legendary career, and his current position within WWE. Not content to allow Jericho to act with such disrespect, the future Hall of Famer turned the tables on the first-ever Undisputed Champion, calling Jericho a hypocrite. For his honesty, Ricky Steamboat was attacked by the nefarious Superstar, who quickly made his exit afterward.
Mike Knox def. Jamie Noble (PHOTOS)
On the previous Raw, Jamie Noble announced to the WWE Universe his desire to compete in the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, but was quickly shut down by Kane, who defeated the tenacious Superstar in a brutal 15 seconds. Believing that if he lasts longer than 15 seconds, he’ll certainly be competing on The Grandest Stage of Them All, Noble took on Mike Knox. The pitbull-like Superstar fared better this week, but unfortunately only marginally so, as the Desert Destroyer still managed to defeat him.
Shawn Michaels def. JBL; HBK faces Vladimir Kozlov next week on Raw for the right to face Undertaker at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania
JBL and his former employee, Shawn Michaels, went into their match on Monday night believing that the winner would have an opportunity to end Undertaker’s historic 16-0 WrestleMania winning streak. Accordingly, the two ring warriors took part in a hard-fought match that Michaels eventually won by way of some Sweet Chin Music. However, during the match, it was announced that the winner of the bout would have to next face SmackDown’s undefeated Vladimir Kozlov for the right to face The Phenom on The Grandest Stage of Them All. As HBK celebrated following the match, the Moscow Mauler himself made his way down to the ring, where he dropped his future opponent, giving Michaels a taste of what could be in store for him when he faces Kozlov on the next Raw.
Women’s Champion Melina & Cryme Tyme def. Glamarella & Dolph Ziggler (PHOTOS)
In a rare Six-Person Mixed Tag Team Match, Women’s Champion Melina joined forces with Cryme Tyme to take on the team of Beth Phoenix & Santino Marella along with their partner for the night, Dolph Ziggler. In spite of the awesome strength of The Glamazon and Ziggler’s aggressive in-ring style, Cryme Tyme's Shad prevailed, picking up the pin over Marella.
Randy Orton and his “Legacy” arrived and barricaded themselves in Orton’s locker room
Earlier in the night, a car carrying Randy Orton arrived in Nashville. His two associates Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase exited first and took a cautious look around before gesturing to the venomous Superstar that the coast was clear. Later, Todd Grisham interviewed Orton’s “Legacy,” who proceeded to defend their leader’s actions of the past few weeks, in which he has incapacitated three members of the McMahon family. The two also warned Stephanie McMahon’s husband, Triple H that Orton would be ready for him if and when he appears on Raw.
Intercontinental Champion CM Punk def. World Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison in a Triple Threat Money in the Bank Qualifying Match
Though World Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison are used to teaming up on opponents in the ring, the two also had one another to worry about as they competed in a Triple Threat Match against Intercontinental Champion CM Punk. There was a lot on the line for each of the Superstars as the winner would earn himself a slot in the Money in the Bank Match at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. The Straightedge Champion made good use of his opponents’ on-again off-again rivalry to pin Morrison, moving one step closer to winning Money in the Bank for the second year in a row.
John Cena to face either Interim Raw General Manager Vickie Guerrero’s friend or her family on Raw
Monday Night Raw was opened by a face familiar to SmackDown fans: Vickie Guerrero. The Friday night brand's shrill General Manager broke the distressing news, that in the McMahon’s absence, she will be serving as Raw’s interim General Manager. Guerrero was then interrupted by John Cena, who clearly stated his desire to cash in his World Heavyweight Title rematch clause on Raw. Before the GM could respond, her husband World Heavyweight Champion Edge came down to the ring, accompanied by Big Show. After some harsh words between the former and current champions, Vickie acquiesced, making a match for John Cena, either against her friend, implying Big Show, or her family, implying the Master Manipulator himself
here are the results for this weeks smackdown, a full report on the show will come on sunday.
Next week’s edition of SmackDown opens with Vladimir Kozlov vs Undertaker and Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy being announced for later in the night.
John Cena opens to mostly cheers by calling out Edge. He asks for a World Heavyweight Championship re-match. Edge accepts, but Vickie comes out and says Edge won’t be competing tonight. Cena charges but Vickie says something. I can’t hear because there is so much heat on Vickie. She introduces Big Show as his opponent for tonight instead.
Carlito & Primo vs. The Miz & John Morrison for the WWE Tag Titles
A ton of Missed spots took the crowd out of it. The Bellas come out and look fantastic. Carlito hits the Backstabber on Morrison for the clean pin. The Colon’s leave with the Bellas.
John Cena vs. Big Show
Huge pops for both athletes. Great long match with offense back and forth. John Cena hits the Attitude Adjustment and then Edge runs out. He slides in and out of the ring without even touching Cena. Very weird spot. Cena looks at Edge and gets the KO from Big Show. High elevation Showstopper for the pinfall victory. Edge gets in the ring and poses over Cena. Edge is limping noticeably.
Undertaker vs. Vladamir Kozlov
A very long match that was boring in spots but the crowd firmly behind Undertaker. Kozlov botches snake eyes twice. Surprisingly clean pinfall victory for Kozlov, however, after he reverses Old School into a powerslam.
Jeff Hardy vs Matt Hardy
Matt out first, then Jeff comes out in street clothes. Jeff on the mic says they’ve always been together and that they will always be brothers. Matt says he is not his brother. He goes on a long semi-shoot about how the fans love Jeff more and how it is about Matt this time. He says the fans wouldn’t forgive Matt if he committed Jeff’s sins. Matt blames the fans and Jeff for his mediocre career. (Way to throw the ECW championship under the bus huh?) He says Jeff is all hype. Matt says fight me but Jeff refuses. Matt slaps Jeff twice but Jeff walks away to a mixed reaction. There is no match.
Shelton Benjamin vs. Chavo with MVP at ringside
Shelton throws Chavo into MVP at ringside. Taunts MVP then gets cradled for the victory. No one in the crowd knew it was a three count. Shelton hits the Drive By as Shelton looks stunned by his defeat
raw results for march s 2008
BOSTON – With just weeks to go before the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, Raw rolled into Boston – the very city that hosted WWE’s biggest event in 1998 – for a show full to the brim with shocking announcements regarding the matches set to take place on The Grandest Stage of Them All. Both World Title Matches were set on Monday night, as 2009 Royal Rumble winner Randy Orton announced his intention to challenge Triple H for the WWE Title, and Vickie Guerrero informed her shocked husband, World Heavyweight Champion Edge, that he would be defending his title against The World’s Largest Athlete, Big Show.
John Cena def. World Heavyweight Champion Edge by disqualification; Edge retained the title and will defend it against Big Show at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania
Following a knockout defeat at the hands of Big Show on SmackDown the Friday before, John Cena was in just the kind of shape that World Heavyweight Champion Edge wanted him in for their World Title rematch. But in spite of the beating he suffered just days before at the hands of The World’s Largest Athlete, Cena was in rare form, taking the fight to the Rated-R Superstar with such intensity that his victory seemed to be imminent. Sensing the danger that his title was in, the Master Manipulator Edge ended the match by disqualifying himself, preventing his opponent from regaining the title.
As the World Heavyweight Champion sat on the stage, finally thinking himself safe, he was joined by his wife Vickie Guerrero, who shocked her husband by announcing who he would defend his title against at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania: Big Show.
Cowboy Bill Watts joined the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2009
The newest member of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2009 was announced: Cowboy Bill Watts. Watts will join “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Funks and Ricky Steamboat as they are inducted the weekend of the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. WWE Hall of Fame
Shawn Michaels def. Vladimir Kozlov, ending his undefeated streak and earning the right to face Undertaker at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania; The Phenom appeared
The week before had seen Shawn Michaels defeat his former employer JBL in an effort to earn the right to face Undertaker at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. But there was another Superstar who harbored ambitions of ending The Phenom’s historic 16-0 streak at WrestleMania: SmackDown’s Vladimir Kozlov. On Raw, HBK squared off against the imposing Moscow Mauler, with the winner earning his spot on The Grandest Stage of Them All. In spite of Kozlov’s superior strength and power, Michaels persevered, putting an end to his opponent’s winning streak, and earning an opportunity to end that of Undertaker as well. But HBK’s celebrations were cut short by the sound of a bone-chilling gong that heralded the arrival of Undertaker, who made an ominous gesture toward his WrestleMania opponent.
Randy Orton decided to face WWE Champion Triple H at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, stipulating that The Game may not touch him until then
Arriving with a full entourage including his “Legacy,” a group of lawyers and a team of security, Randy Orton took to the ring on Monday night to make a huge announcement regarding the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. Defying the WWE Universe’s expectations, the 2009 Royal Rumble winner announced that he would not be facing WWE Champion Triple H, but would instead challenge the winner of the World Heavyweight Title Match between John Cena and Edge, scheduled for later that evening. Furthermore, the Legend Killer stated his plans to press charges against The Game for his sledgehammer assault the week prior.
As if on cue, the WWE Champion himself appeared and entered the ring. Triple H taunted Orton, stating that he doesn’t have what it takes to face him and even calling the young Superstar gutless for refusing to challenge him – an act The Cerebral Assassin claims that the third-generation Superstar desperately wants to commit. Giving in to the pressure, Orton changed his mind, deciding that he would face Triple H at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania for the WWE Title, stipulating that if the WWE Champion lays his hands on him before then, that he would move forward with the aforementioned criminal charges. After The Game agreed to these conditions, it was Orton’s turn to do the taunting as he described to Triple H how good it felt when he RKO’d his wife, Stephanie. Though The Cerebral Assassin kept his agreement not to touch Orton, he promised that when they meet, he’ll break the Legend Killer’s neck.
Mickie James & Kelly Kelly def. Beth Phoenix & Jillian; Divas Champion Maryse attacked Women’s Champion Melina after the match (PHOTOS)
As usual, Beth Phoenix came to the ring in full force, accompanied by her beau Santino Marella as well as her fanatical intern, Rosa Mendes. As both Women’s Champion Melina and Divas Champion Maryse looked on, The Glamazon and her tag team partner, Jillian, took on the team of Mickie James & Kelly Kelly. In spite of Phoenix’s immense power and her unscrupulous associates, she was unable to score a victory as Kelly Kelly pinned Raw’s tone-deaf songstress for the win. Not content to walk away with a loss, Beth & Jillian started a brawl with their opponents, drawing Melina to the ring. But when the Women’s Champion was climbing up, Divas Champion Maryse pulled her off of the apron and hit the Women's champion with a vicious DDT, the culmination of the two’s verbal sparring throughout the match.
Kane def. Rey Mysterio and Mike Knox in a Triple Threat Money in the Bank Qualifying Match
With the Money in the Bank briefcase motivating them high above the ring, Rey Mysterio, Kane and Mike Knox faced off in a Triple Threat Match with a slot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match on the line. Though recent weeks had seen the two gigantic Superstars work together, Kane kept his eyes firmly on the prize as he pinned the Desert Destroyer to earn his spot at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. Following the match, the Big Red Monster chokeslammed his other opponent, leaving the Master of the 619 lying on the mat in his destructive wake.
Chris Jericho hosted Piper’s Pit, then insulted and attacked WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Mocking the classic interview segment hosted by WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Chris Jericho held with his own version of Piper’s Pit, even making use of the original set. The nefarious Superstar proceeded to show footage of the segment’s most infamous incident, in which Piper brutally attacked Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, before welcoming Snuka himself to his imitation Piper’s Pit. Continuing the trend established in recent weeks, Jericho insulted Snuka, going so far as to call the WWE Hall of Famer a disgrace.
Further crossing the line, the self-proclaimed “best in the world today” imitated Piper and Snuka’s classic confrontation, offering “Superfly” various tropical fruits. But Jericho’s arrogance once again got the better of him, as Snuka grabbed hold of a coconut, using it to threaten the first-ever Undisputed Champion and chase him from the set. As soon as Snuka began to take in the WWE Universe’s adulation however, the cowardly Jericho carried out a craven attack, knocking the Piper’s Pit set on top of Snuka and then whipping the Legend with his belt.
World Heavyweight Champion Edge will defend his title against John Cena
Raw opened with a huge announcement for later in the night. As decreed by Raw interim General Manager Vickie Guerrero, just days after his knockout defeat at the hands of Big Show, John Cena would be awarded his rematch against World Heavyweight Champion Edge, with the title on the line
